Liability

Anything a business owes — unpaid bills, loans, taxes collected but not yet remitted.

Liabilities are the business's obligations: supplier bills, credit cards, loans, wages payable, and taxes collected from customers but not yet passed on (like GST).

Like assets, liabilities split into current (due within a year) and non-current. Comparing current assets to current liabilities shows whether near-term obligations are covered.
